On November 20, 2018 presentation of the new book in Bulgarian language of Assoc. Prof. Mariyana Stamova, PhD, ‘Albanians in Socialist Republic of Macedonia during the Last Decade of Tito’s Yugoslavia (1981-1991)’ took place at the Institute of Balkan Studies and Centre of Thracology. The Albanian translation of the book by Dr. Anton Panchev “Shqiptarëtnë Republikën Socialiste të Maqedonisë gjatë dekadëssë fundit të Jugosllavisë së Titos (1981–1991)“ was also presented during the event.
This book and its translation are generously supported by the Military-history Commission and National Community Centre ‘Zora-Kystendil 2003’. Dr. Bobi Bobev, the Ambassador of Bulgaria in Albania spoke about the book. By this publication the author finishes a thematic chronological period: from the death of the Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito in 1980 and the following year of escalation of tensions in Kosovo, and to a lesser extent among Albanians in the neighbouring Republic of Macedonia until the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s, when serious signs of disintegration of the Yugoslav Federation appeared. The study refers to a short but stormy ten-year period with regards to the international contradictions.
The subject under discussion is undoubtedly of value due to the particular importance of the ‘Albanian factor’ in the process of the disintegration of federal Yugoslavia and its continuing influence on the geopolitical situation in the Balkans. The book is written on the basis of original archival material, published documents, memoirs and periodicals. These authentic documents are mainly related to the participants in the events. This is also the contribution to the problem. Thus, this book’s contribution to science lies in their publication.
